AI summary

This proposal, a Constitutional AIP, seeks to upgrade Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova to ArbOS 40 "Callisto." This upgrade incorporates changes from Ethereum's upcoming Pectra upgrade, specifically EIP-7702 and EIP-2537, and includes a minor fix related to Arbitrum Stylus. EIP-7702 allows Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to execute smart contract code, enabling features like batching and transaction sponsorship. EIP-2537 introduces more efficient and secure cryptographic operations for the BLS12-381 curve, improving BLS signature verification and other applications like zkSNARKS.

Impact

If passed, Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova will gain enhanced functionality, including improved account abstraction for EOAs and stronger cryptographic security. This benefits users through more flexible transaction options and developers through more robust tools. There are no direct financial losses or gains for specific parties mentioned.

Abstract

This AIP proposes to upgrade Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova to ArbOS 40 “Callisto”. Callisto adds support for relevant Execution Layer (EL) changes from Ethereum’s upcoming Pectra upgrade (H1 2025) and a small Arbitrum Stylus related fix. Among the EL changes include a way for Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to execute smart contract code directly from their addresses (via EIP-7702) and new pre-compiles to efficiently perform operations over the BLS12-381 elliptic curve…
